2016 Chevy Camaro Will Be Much Lighter than Previous Generation
News from GM product boss Mark Reuss: the 2016 Chevy Camaro will be lighter than its predecessor.
The new Camaro will be built on the Alpha platform, which is the same platform that underpins the Cadillac ATS. That platform weighs 3,400 pounds. The current generation Z/28 weighs in at 3,800 pounds, so the new Camaro should weigh about 400 pounds less.
“Every car and truck we’re putting out here, I think, is an example of how good our engineers really are…The next-gen Camaro…is not going to be heavier. There is some physics here. Look at what some of the competition did on their next-gen — it’s heavier; it doesn’t quite perform as well as the last one. I can tell you that.”
